After care is a very important part of your recovery from gastric bypass surgery. A gastric bypass forum can offer a great deal of support and guidance during your recovery period. I find forums one of the best ways to get information and help with any challenges you may be dealing with after your surgery. Forums are not just for the newly recovering patient, but any one that needs assistance or can offer help is welcome as a member to a forum.
It is essential that you build a support system. Many bariatric surgery programs will offer some type of support. It will usually be individual counseling and/or a support group. The people that have the best success are the ones that make use of the programs that are offered to them. Learning to live healthy happens one day at a time and through the experience of others that had the surgery before you.
Success after gastric bypass surgery is more than just the surgery. The time will come when many people that have had the surgery, will be able to gain weight again if you do not make healthy choices. One of the worst mistakes I made was not getting started on an exercise program. I did begin walking regularly, but when you lose a significant amount of weight, just aerobic exercise is not enough. You must have a strength training program to keep your muscles strong and stretching also has to be done regularly.
I have a personal trainer that I meet with 3 times a week for 30 minutes. She is worth every penny I pay her. It has made a tremendous difference in the way I feel in just 3 months. It is the little things that are part of living healthy that are going to add up to make you the energetic and healthy person that you deserve to be. Take it one step at a time by getting the support you need and doing the things that the successful people before you did to lose the weight and keep it off.
