There are lap band surgery risks, but overall these risks are not tremendous and many of them can be avoided by following the instructions that are given to you by your bariatric professionals. Weighing the risk of being obese against that of having weight loss surgery, being obese will shorten life in many cases and the chances of the happening are pretty good. The chance of you having complications for the gastric banding procedure itself is very slim.
If you are obese, you have risks that far exceed that of the surgery. Years ago food was looked on as a necessity and not as something that we used to comfort ourselves or celebrate. Some types of cancers, snoring, asthma and sleep apnea, erectile dysfunction and impotence are few other problems that can occur as a result if being obese.
Depression, incontinence, fatty liver disease, increased surgical risks and restless leg syndrome. There are actually other things that are a result of being overweight. And many people will not have all of these, but enough to make each day of their lives uncomfortable. How long are you willing to put your health in jeopardy and experience pain on a daily basis?
The good news is many of these conditions can be reduced or even eliminated by losing weight. Now, you wonder again about the risks of lap band surgery. They are minimal but they do exist. What about the risks of being obese?
