Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass
Laparoscopic gastric bypass is something that will come up if you are considering weight loss surgery. Many things will cross your mind as you prepare for this life changing weight loss option. Laparoscopic surgery is something that is done many times a day in many types of surgeries. This is the most common form of surgery used when performing any type of gastric bypass surgery.
There are two ways that gastric bypass surgery can be performed and that is laparoscopically or open. When I had my roux-en-y it was performed with a laparoscope through 5 different one inch incisions. There is a small camera that allows the surgeon to see what he is operating on. This surgery is minimally invasive compared to the open form of surgery because it requires small incisions and no stitches to close the incisions.
The open form of gastric bypass surgery requires that an incision be made and the operation is performed through this incision using traditional surgical instruments. The majority of these weight loss surgeries are performed laparoscopically. One of the few things that would prohibit laparoscopic surgery is excess scar tissue. If you had gastric bypass surgery, there is a good chance that you had laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery. The big benefit to having this type of surgery is reduced recovery time. It takes time for incisions to heal and the smaller they are the shorter the recovery time.
The gastric bypass diet will also help with a speedy recovery. Eating 60 grams of protein each day and drinking 32 ounces of water is the best thing you can do to regain your strength and become strong again. It will take about 6 to 8 weeks for an individual that has had a roux-en-y and just a few weeks for a person that has had gastric banding to recover from the surgery. For the first 12 months you will eat very small portions that should be chewed well.
Many people find their biggest problems to be with food high in sugar or fat. These are food products that should be limited in anyone’s diet. Do the things that most people know are healthy and you will be well on your way to losing the weight. You will also see your obesity related health issues begin to decrease and some of them may disappear completely. For a person that has been overweight for many years, there is often more to this problem than just no exercise and an unbalanced diet.
Losing 100 pounds or more is a process and not only will it take time, it should be a time of self discovery. You should be looking at what fueled the long period of overeating that most likely occurred prior to surgery. It is important to work on putting balance in your life. Too much time at work, dealing with family and any number of other things can lead to stress that can cause us to eat compulsively.
Gastric bypass surgery is a tool that can help you restore your health, but it is just that…a tool. Once you have the tools, it is up to you to use them in such a way that you will reach your goals. It can be done. Many people have done it in the past, but the world is also full of people that have gained weight after surgery. The choice is yours and you will get out of it what you put into it.
